A dedicated DSL line is of utmost importance to gain maximum speed and avoid drops.
The reason is simple. If you use the same line for DSL and Voice, DSL Filters are required for every phone extension except for the one the DSL Modem is connected to. Each DSL Filter decreases your speed and I’ve seen many places running 5 or more filters that can’t stay online for any period of time before getting booted off.
With a dedicated DSL Line, a line is put in place from the Telephone Interface on the side of your home or office and ran directly to a jack where you plug your DSL Modem in. The remaining line for voice is left intact.
A NID Splitter is installed in the Interface and this allows the DSL Line and the Voice Line to be connected to separate components. The NID Splitter plays a very valuable role because it completely eliminates the need for DSL Filters and all telephones can be plugged directly into the wall jacks. This in turn will improve your connection speed and make your connection much more reliable.
